Professional Scratch Repair & Data Recovery for CD - DVD & Video Game Discs

   For Home, Business, Educational & Public Institutions

    Can CD Fixer repair every scratched CD & DVD disc?                               Back to FAQ

YES, with some exceptions where the data layer has become damaged, particularly with Compact Discs;

Single Sided (CD) Discs;
Compact Discs; Audio CD's - CD Rom's - CD-r's - Nintendo GameCube - PS1 - DreamCast....

These discs are single sided and are generally used for Audio and digital data. Being single sided, Compact Discs have their foil data layer very close to the top side of the disc and are therefore vulnerable to irreparable damage if scratches on the top (label side) of the disc reach the data layer beneath.

 In most cases the data layer is un-harmed and Compact Discs can be restored to perfect optical clarity and high gloss shine finish.

 If there is damage to the data layer itself, there is nothing that can be done to retrieve this data using scratch repair processes, however, all is by no means lost, we can recover data manually from damaged data layers using our data recovery processes.

 The good news is that even discs with minor damage to this data layer often play perfectly after restoration. Naturally, the worse the damage, the less likely it is that the disc can be restored.   If you are at all unsure, CD Fixer will give you a free assessment of whether it is possible or economical to  repair the scratches on any CD.

Double Sided Discs;
DVD (Digital Versatile Disc); Movies - DVD-r's - PS2 - XBox - XBox360....

These discs are double sided and have a strong polycarbonate layer below AND above the foil data layer forming a 'sandwich' to protect the data. Due to this method of manufacture, these discs are far more robust and far less likely to suffer data layer damage from the top side of the disc.

Being that they are more robust, DVD's, video game discs and DVD     recordable discs can all be repaired and restored to perfect optical clarity and high gloss shine finish.

Blu-Ray Discs: PS3 - Hi Definition Movies....

Whilst Blu-Ray discs have the same dimensions as a CD or DVD, Blu-Ray disc use a blue laser, finer than red and able to read more data from the same are than a red laser. The polycarbonate layer on the bottom of a Blu-Ray disc is much thinner than on a standard DVD. Therefore, since the data layer is much closer to the surface of the disc, a hard coating of the pick-up surface was chosen to protect against scratches.

The types of disc shown above are some of  the fundamental disc types, however, there are a host of types and formats and if you would like to read more about other disc types and their repair or recovery you can do so at our FAQ page

Any discs that are  warped, cracked or broken can not be repaired and will be returned free of charge and a credit for non repairable discs will be issued. However, all is by no means lost, we can recover data manually from damaged data layers using our data recovery processes
